ABSD payable for co-owners

It used to be a trend for property fractional owners to benefit from paying lesser ABSD so long they own a small share of the property

In a recent article from The Business Times, it was highlighted that the stamp duty payable on fractional property investment is dependent on specific circumstances.

Interestingly, investors who acquire shares of properties under fractional ownership are currently not subject to the Additional Buyer’s Stamp Duty (ABSD), as per the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on Wednesday (Oct 4). This could be perceived as a loophole in the existing regulations, providing an avenue for investors to potentially bypass certain taxes.

However, it’s crucial to remember that regulations and tax laws are subject to change. What may appear as a loophole today could be rectified tomorrow. Hence, staying abreast with the latest news and developments in this sector is of utmost importance.
